The Blessing of the Socks

On Saturday I wrote: What if everyday when I put on my socks I utter a blessing…

So yesterday I wrote the blessing. And here, now, with the subtle layer of first snow clinging to this portion of the globe and my toes aching for woolen containment, it feels appropriate to share.

I suppose come summer we shall have to find a way to bless our sandals, but for now I invite you, each day when you sit to put them on, to utter The Blessing of the Socks:

With my toes all hugged together,

and my feet wrapped up in wool,

may my steps make the world be better,

and my heart with love be full.

Bless you this morning. And bless your socks.
